Deepak began his formal vocal training at the age of five under Ms. R. Vasanthalakshmi of Mysore. He received advanced lessons in vocal and Veena in the 'Mysore Bidaram Krishnappa' style from his father R. Paramashivan who is a recipient of 'Sangeet Natak Academy Award', the highest honor in performing arts bestowed by the Government of India.
He attained proficiency in the Mysore style of Veena under maestro D Balakrishna, the son and chief disciple of late Mysore Doreswamy Iyengar, the greatest exponent of the instrument in contemporary history. He received the B-high grade from the All India Radio in Veena. He also received special training in Laya Vinyasa (rhythmic ornamentation of music) and Mrudangam from Mr. Vasudevarao and Mr. C. Cheluvaraju.
He learnt Hindustani vocal and the essentials of Sarangi from Faiyaz Ahmed Khan of Dharwad and continued his Sarangi training under the world renowned Sarangi virtuoso Pandit Ram Narayan and Grammy winner Late Pandit Dhruba Ghosh. Currently he is a disciple of the world renowned Sitar and Tabla maestro, Pandit Nayan Ghosh.
Deepak has extensively performed at numerous national and international music festivals while collaborating with world renowned musicians, Ustad Aashish Khan, Pandit Yogesh Samsi, Pandit Birju Maharaj to name a few.
He is currently learning Piano from Ms. Jeanne Yang and receiving choral composition & voice lessons from Dr. Robert Curtis of the University of Alberta (UoA), where he is also a member of the concert choir.
